Clinical Neuroscience
Cognitive Assessment App
The Problem
Clinical researchers needed a digital version of a List Sorting Working Memory assessment — the kind of instrument the NIH Toolbox popularized — that was fast to administer, consistent across sites, and interpretable against normative data for clinical populations.
The Approach
Built a two-surface assessment (iOS and web) modeled on the NIH Toolbox methodology. Emoji-based stimuli keep the task engaging without compromising difficulty; free-text recall captures actual working-memory performance rather than multiple-choice approximations. A clinical interpretation screen surfaces results against normative data for stroke, TBI, MCI, and Alzheimer's populations.
The Outcome
Runs on both iOS (SwiftUI) and web (HTML). Same assessment logic, different delivery surfaces — researchers choose whichever fits the clinical setting.
